7th Annual Amtrack Road Trip
January 16-20, 2003

The ULTIMATE AMTRAK ROAD TRIP

by Ann & Jake Snyder

This is it, the one we have been practicing for on all the past Amtrak Road trips! This one is longer and farther then anything since the first Amtrak Road Trip, and perhaps will be the best ever. January 16 through January 20, 2003 is your chance to visit the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky with your friends from the Chicagoland MG Club.

Transporation is, of course, provided by Amtrak from Chicago, leaving in the evening on Thursday, January 16, arriving in Bowling Green at about noon on Friday, January 17. The interesting part of this trip is that the train stops in Louisville, and we will get a sight-seeing tour as part of the package by bus to Bowling Green. Now, if we all really hurry at that point, we could possibly make it to the Corvette factory for the 1 P.M. tour. But in the unlikely event that the train is delayed to the point that the tour is difficult to do, we will relax at the Best Western Motor Inn at Exit 22 on Interstate 65. The hotel has an indoor pool and a hot tub, and there are many restaurants in the area. (Unfortunately, the hotel right next to the National Corvette Museum has very few amenities). We have all of Saturday to visit the Museum and explore the area. We will begin our return journey on Sunday, arriving back in Chicago on Monday morning, just about time for anyone who works downtown to hop off the train and head to the Loop.

The details:
Train 850, departing CHI at 755 P.M. on Thursday, January 16/Arriving BWG via bus 8850 at 1125 A.M. on Friday, January 17.
Bus 8851, departing BWG at 255 P.M. on Sunday, January 19/Arriving CHI via train 851 at 900 A.M. on Monday, January 20.
Make the reservations online at www.amtrak.com, or at a Chicago Motor Club (AAA) office. The price per person is $121, subject to various discounts. Note that the price of the transporation includes two nights lodging in a very spacious and comfortable coach seat, which makes the train trip virtually free.
Best Western Motor Inn, 166 Cumberland Trace Road, Bowling Green, KY. 270.782.3800. Special room rate (group name Chicagoland MG Club) $62 + tax (two double beds) or $59 + tax (one king bed), smoking or non-smoking. If you have special questions, please phone Mr. Chris Sweeny, group sales manager.
Area transporation: The hotel does not have shuttle service, and we must use cabs. The rate is $10 from the hotel to the museum, with $1 for each additional rider, up to four or five persons. If we have enough attending, we will try to get a van. We will also need to take a cab from and to the bus terminal, but very likely we can walk to restaurants around the hotel.
