Swap Meet Recap
February 24, 2002 - by Jim Evans

Jim Evans The 6th annual All British Car Swap Meet & Autojumble was held February 24 at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, lllinois.

Over 900 buyers crowded the aisles searching for those hard-to-get items that help to keep our cars on the road. Over 110 vendor spots provided both new and used parts, accessories, and memorabilia to meet the shopper’s needs (although more than one item went from one vendor to another and may reappear next year). Vendors came from as far away as Pennsylvania with several from Ohio, Michigan, and other nearby states. Buyers also came from numerous out-of-town locations as evidenced by their addresses on the mailing list sign up list.

This event has developed a good reputation as a major event on the British car scene in the midwest and as a valuable market place for both buyers and sellers. As in the past, most of the British car oriented clubs in the Chicago area promoted the event to their existing members and even set up recruiting booths to attract new ones. Buyers and sellers alike seem to enjoy the opportunity to come together in the heated indoor facility without the distractions of a car show or driving events.

The All British Car Swap Meet & Autojumble is conducted by the Chicagoland MG Club and widely promoted through enthusiast publications, club channels and major media in the midwest. With over 300 members and a 25 year history, the Chicagoland MG Club is well known for sponsoring innovative activities of this kind. The club can be reached through its website at www.chicagolandmgclub.com or at PO Box 455, Addison, IL 60101.
