Spring Tour to Road America

On Saturday May 20 we'll be heading north to Road America near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for their 7th annual Family Tailgate Party. This is a fun family event that runs from 10 am - 3 pm hosted by Road America. Enter Gate 2 and enjoy the day's events for free including a Big Wheel Contest, Complimentary track tours, carnival & helicopter rides (fee for these), awesome car show, live music and complimentary food & beverage sampling.

This event is happening the same weekend as the SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend. Qualifying races will be on Saturday starting at 10am, with possible races in the afternoon. We can watch for free from turn 14, if you want to go elsewhere to watch you pay the admission fee.

We'll meet at the Wisconsin Welcome Center on I-94, just across the Illinois border and just south of Kenosha at 9am and proceed to Road America. I'll be there in our white Subaru Outback, so don't look for my 'B. As I wrote last month, this is an event for the whole family and my whole family doesn't fit in an MGB. If you're bringing only 2 people, bring your MG; but if you have kids or grandkids you'll be doing more to help this hobby and the CMGC by bringing them and sharing the fun of old cars and racing than if you leave them home. This is an event for kids as much as adults. In the morning, we'll just go straight there to enjoy the festivities. When its time to go in mid afternoon, we'll do some scenic touring out of the area, including a lap around the original road racing course. This Historic Race Circuit has recently been named to the Wisconsin State and National Historic Register. I'll have maps and directions to hand out to people the day of the trip.

If you can't make it to the welcome center at 9, don't fret, get up to the track when you can. Just remember to go into gate 2 to meet up with us. My cell phone number is 708-752-1701. See you then, Wade Keene
