Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline July 2008
Meeting Minutes-June
Monday, June 16, 2008

Attendance: 38 members

The meeting was called to order at 8:06 pm by President, Jim Evans.

Current Projects - Barney Gaylord is finishing up his unplanned restoration. (Originally was only going to replace the sills – one thing led to another…) The body should go back on the frame this week, followed by the rest of body reassembly in the next day or two. Reassembly goes quick, so he expects to be driving it about a week from Monday. The worst of the grunt work left is probably fitting and gluing down the new carpet.

Leigh & Joanne Clark announce they purchased a car. They are now the proud owners of a vintage white 1950 T-series MG purchased in West Chicago. Only a few hours in the driver’s seat, but looking forward to showing it off by inviting the club members to drop by their ‘Open House’ on June 28th starting at 10 am. Their address is in the new Club Directory.

Past Events - Jim noted the past events participated by club members.
AAA Car Show, Sandwich, IL
Gears & Ears, Kendall City Fair
AACA Car Show, Lake Forest, IL
Willow Creek Community Church Autofest, N.Barrington, IL

Upcoming Events – See details in the Driveline or on the Website of the many events available for club members in the near future.

Newsletter –The premiere issue of the Driveline in the new format was delivered to club members a few weeks ago. Some members in the Naperville area experienced delivery delays. The CMGC staff is working with the US Postal Service to determine why this delay occurred.
The fresh new format has received many positive comments. Kudos to Bill Reece for undertaking this project.

Club Directory – The 2008 Club Directory has been delivered to all members. The format has changed to keep the cost down and still provide the information club members have been asking for. In this new format, updates can occur more often that they have in the past.

Project Car – There has been a number of inquiries regarding the project car that is currently for sale. Jim Evans is replying with additional information.

eBay Parts Program – The club currently owns a large quantity of spare parts that are gathering dust and could be of benefit to other car owners. The intention is to make available car parts to a wider range of folks who normally do not have ready-access to useable parts. A program to list select saleable items on a website auction is being developed by David Evans (no relation to Jim Evans). Dave will photograph, market, sell and

ship the selected items for the club. We will start small, and list more items as the process is refined.

Guest Speaker – Active club member- Tom Raddatz – told his story of his undying pursuit of a 1994 MG RV8. Tom’s car is the only true RV8 in North America. Tom’s quest spanned the globe from the England to the Cayman Islands to Florida; encountering issues with cargo crating, trucking companies, brokerage houses - not to mention the paperwork requirements for port entry and customs. Reconstruction work required to restore this fine automobile that suffered the damaging effects of being submerged in salt water for two weeks caused by Hurricane Ivan, was an undertaking to say the least. The labor of love for over six years was viewed by club members in the parking lot after the meeting. A truly beautiful automobile. A complete article can be found in the April 2008 issue of Safety Fast! Magazine.

50/50 Raffle – Bill Mennell went home $14 richer from the raffle while Tom Raddatz and Tom Josefek each selected a tee-shirt award.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm
