Summer Party

August 15-17, 2003
Abingdon & Galesburg, Illinois

Time flies when you’re having fun. Here it is July already, and you’re not registered yet? We notice the hotel reservations are filling in, but apparantly some folks (yes, you know who) are still foot-dragging on the event registration. Pre-registration before August 15 is required for the meals and for on-site delivery of your fantastic Commemorative Abingdon Weekend Polo Shirt. The number of pre-registrations may also have something to do with the number of show trophies and awards and the amount of snacks and beverages at the Natter ‘n’ Noggin. So grab a pen and fill in that little form at the right and send it in before you forget again. Come join us in hoisting an Old Speckled Hen at the 2003 Abingdon Summer Party.

Our Saturday night awards banquet will be held this year at the Soangetaha Country Club, one of Galesburg’s oldest and most exclusive facilities, on the banks of Rice Lake. We will be in the main dining hall where the timbered ceiling has a distinctive British tone, the view over the lake is enchanting, and the food is promoted as “the best in Galesburg”. Pre-reservations for this dinner prior to August 15th are required.

The Abingdon Trials Rally & Tour - Our low-keyed rally will give you time to enjoy the countryside while following the rallymaster’s instructions.

The Abingdon Natter ’n’ Noggin - Friday evening is a time to relax and share MG comraderie at the Natter ’n’ Noggin, a long time tradition at the Abingdon Summer Party.
Whether renewing acquaintances, establishing new ones, or simply relaxing with others of teh group, you’ll find a good time to be had in the courtyard at this year’s host hotel.
Stroll through the parking lot and kick a few tires (not literally, please!)... stop by the display of MGs on the lawn of the inner courtyard to admire their excellence ... then try a “pint” at the hospitality room.

The Abingdon Commons Car Show - On Saturday morning, bring your MG to the main parkway in the center of Abingdon for this popular vote car show. The park-like setting invites you to compare cars in a variety of classes as you cast your votes. The show provides a setting for vendors & local craftsmen to display their wares.

The Abingdon Sterling Award - During the car show, expert judges will score participating cars for originality and condition granting only the best of the best with this prestigious award. Only MGs meeting the highest criteria of excellence need apply: Does your MG make the grade?

The Famous Abingdon Gymkhana - Saturday afternoon at the Abingdon Summer Party is a special time as the townsfolk of Abingdon close off Main Street and officials announce the start of The Famous Abingdon Gymkhana.
In a few minutes street lanes and parking areas are transformed into a carefully laid out autocross circuit designed to appeal to both the novice and more experienced driver. Rubber cones mark “the” way for those who pass the safety equipment inspection; judges and corner workers are ready along the course; spectators cheer their favorites! And they’re off!
