David Lieb Late Summer Rally
August 26, 2001
by David Lieb

Where were you? I am getting tired of writing these blurbs. Will you please show up and win a rally or two so that I can have a break from writing? Only four cars ran in the Late Summer Rally from Algonquin to Schaumburg by way of Crystal Lake, McHenry, Bull Valley and a few other spots that the rally-master may not have intended.

This was the first rally that Mike Hirsch has laid out for us and he certainly has very good taste in driving roads! I wasn’t really thrilled about looking for clues while driving Route 14 through Crystal Lake or Route 120 through McHenry, but it would have been worth it to drive over the covered bridge that I never found.....

I think Mike is very much aware of the impossibility of proofing your own work now. All four of us got lost in the same spot. Mike assures us that we missed the best roads of the rally and that he already has half of his next rally ready to run since none of us got to see it.
