Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline September 2009

MG 2009—Continued
of the week.  It was sunny, not too warm, and dry.  We all had the opportunity to visit with MG friends old and new.  It was a very nice show.  The awards banquet served fantastic food and there was more time to chat with our friends.  Everyone who traveled more than one thousand miles received a Road Warrior Certificate.  The ceremony broke up a little after ten.
We traveled home in two groups.  We said our goodbyes after relaxing in one of the lobbies in our building.  Oscar and Diana had to be home Monday evening, so they left early Sunday along with Roger and Shirley.  Rob, Mary, Ann, and I had an extra day so we left a little later in the morning.  The four of us stopped Sunday in North Platte, Nebraska.  We had great weather and a really enjoyable drive.  We dined at the Whiskey Creek Steakhouse near our hotel.
On Monday we drove to a Comfort Inn just east of Des Moines.  Mary and Rob had some serious car problems, so we parted company in Iowa; but we all arrived home on Tuesday.
You may think we eat well and enjoy some fine beverages.  We do!  We also enjoy each others’ company and visiting friends we only see at these conventions.
We had another great MG experience.  We say Scott Fohrman in Breckenridge.  Illinois had the second highest attendance at the convention.  There were a lot of people from the Prairie Octagon Club in central Illinois.
MG 2010 will be held near Toronto.  We will be caravanning to Canada for the first time.  This will be a very short trip for our group (less than 600 mile). It is not too early to start planning to join us.  I am sure it will be another success.  We hope to see you will join us.
Ann and I passed 50,000 miles on our ’67 B (it had 96,000 mile on the odometer when we purchased it) since the 2003 driving season. We were on our way home near Iowa City. 2003 was our first driving season with it so we have seen a lot of the country in the last six years. Our intention is to see a lot more of the US and Canada.
Hope to see you on the road too!

23rd Annual British Car Festival
September 13, 2009

British Cars! Do you remember the first time you saw one? Did you have one in college? Has a British car become a member of the family? Did you ever restore one? Do you remember the thrill of that first drive in the open air, on a twisty country road, in a car that offered a driving enjoyment Detroit could never understand? If you have ever owned, wanted to own, or just enjoy British cars, then the British Car Festival is for you. The condition of your car is not important...but getting together is. We welcome all British cars and anyone with an interest in British motoring.

Additional information is available at the British Car Union website, http://britishcarunion.com/

Hi everyone. The route is planned, the reservations are made, and it is just a little more than seven weeks until we meet in Michigan for our LIGHTS AND LIBATIONS TOUR, WCB 2009. The dates are September 18th – 20th.
We will meet in Stevensville, Michigan Friday and Saturday. Ann and I have reserved a block of rooms for both evenings at the Baymont Inn. The phone number is 269-428-9111. Please call the hotel and make your reservations under the Chicagoland MG Club’s block or group number 577-981684. The block expires August 16th. Friday evening dinner will be early at a local winery and restaurant. The food and the wines are excellent. Our dinner reservations are for 5:30. Don’t forget Michigan is an hour ahead of Chicago. The tour will begin at 8 AM Saturday (Eastern Time) from the Baymont’s parking lot. We will be visiting a winery/brewery/distillery and some of the Lighthouses along the Lake Michigan shore and enjoying a scenic drive. On Sunday, we will stop for lunch at a brewery in Indiana by the Old Michigan City Lighthouse. Nearby are both a lighthouse museum and Ragg Tops auto museum. You can choose one or both museums to tour. We expect another fun weekend of driving, sampling some fine foods and wines, and socializing.
If you are attending this event, please let us know your plans and send your email address as soon as possible.

Hope you all can join us!
