The Steering Column

Greetings to All

Where has the year gone? The year 2000-MG driving season is quickly becoming a memory. As I look at photos of this past year I find myself reminiscing of the many fond memories my husband and I have shared since becoming involved in the MG world back in the 70’s. Some have been more memorable then others but we treasure them all. About 20 years ago, we were on our way to a John Twist Summer party on a Friday Night. It was around 11:00 PM & freezing when our TD began ‘skipping a beat’ and of course I immediately wanted to turn back even though we were more than halfway to Grand Rapids. But, my ever-optimistic husband said our choices were one, to stop at the side of the road in the dark & rain or two, drive right on in as the car was only missing because it was running on only 3 cylinders. Good thing for us I always trust him, that is, when it comes to cars. Any way, we did arrive safely. Next morning, the car was fixed (under several umbrellas) as it continued to pour the entire weekend; it took several months for that to become a fond memory! Enough of the reminiscing, on to the business at hand.

It is time to make preparations for next year beginning with the election of new officers. Nominations were held at the November meeting. I was disappointed that more members did not volunteer to put their names on the ballot but I am happy to announce that we have some fine members running for office, some even unopposed. These members will bring new, fresh ideas to the club. Please give them your support by immediately marking your ballots upon receiving them and returning them to the addressee. Also remember that the board itself cannot carry the load, It is up to us as members to keep this club viable by our attendance and active participation in the ongoing activities of our club. The year 2000 was a great one for CMGC, let us make 2001 even better.

I know by the time you receive this newsletter the Christmas Party will have become another memory. I sincerely hope you enjoyed your dinner, music, gifts and most importantly the gifts of friendship.

Happy Holiday
