Autocross Update: 2013 Driving Events

Ever wonder what your MG can really do? Our LBCs were made for this stuff. Autocross is a terrific way to learn car control in a “controlled” environment. The skills you learn and practice are smooth transitions, enhanced braking, and skid correction, will have an immediate impact on improving the safety and skill of your street driving. Autocross usually involves a large parking lot and rubber cones, and cars rarely leave second gear. Competitors make several runs, with the best run being counted. While autocross is called a "speed event", it's really about handling, not high speed. Some drivers are competitive about their autocross times, but most people enter just for the chance to master their car's handling. Driving close to the limit on a closed course prepares you for evasive maneuvers in traffic, and it’s a lot of fun.

Our CMGC club members are invited again to participate in autocross events with the Windy City Miata Club (www.windycitymiataclub.com) and the Austin Healy Club.

We are putting 5 Autocross events on our calendar, as follows:
Miata Club Events: It is a must that you visit the Miata Club website. Once in, click on “Autocross” on the main page menu.

Read the Autocross Rules, FAQs and Autocross Forum. Their website is just an endless fountain of info. You will see directions for registration, selecting a car number (you can’t have 469, that’s mine, and it took several tries to find one that was available), driving tips, rules etc. Cost per car for non-Miata club members is $35 cash. Guest helmets available. If we have at least 5 MGs per event, we’ll have our own class “V” for visiting club.
