Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline May 2011

The weather is finally starting to change for the better (sort of). Yes, lots of rain and overcast, but at least no snow. I’ve had my Midget out several times already this season. Saturday afternoon I took it up to a friend’s house in Schaumburg. It was nice enough to have the top down and music blasting. As I was sitting at a stoplight, a very nice looking TR-6 pulled up next to me. We did the customary thumbs up and such; each checking out the others ride. It felt like summer, just for a minute. Then the light changed and he blasted out of there!
I haven’t seen too many other British cars on the road so far this year. Two Triumph’s and a Sunbeam Alpine (new Mini Cooper’s don’t count). But with the weather changing I hope to see that change soon. I have been busy still working on the route for the Spring Chicken Tour. The road construction season has already started so I have been making weekly changes to the route. I’m hoping to have the route nailed down by the May 7th. We will be starting in St. Charles; one block north of Route 64 and Route 31. There is a parking lot along the river on Rt. 31, right hand side of the road. I’m hoping this will be a good time for all. See you on the road

Well I would be feeling better if it wasn't for Mother Nature being unfaithful to our ‘tops down’ venues. Hopefully the ‘rain dance’ will stop for some of our upcoming outings.

We have had pretty good showings at our monthly meetings and the Natter ‘n’ Noggins so let’s keep it up. Coming up I’m trying something new – a progressive garage tour. Basically starting from one members’ garage and moving on to another garage and maybe having some coffee, doughnuts and treats along with a little chit-chat or show-and-tell. We will do about 6 stops ending at our house in Lake in the Hills for food and beverages. Hopefully we will have good weather. This progressive garage tour will be in the northern area of our membership. I'll do another one in the southern area to try to even out the members.

Also coming up is the Lucas Memorial (before) night rally. It will cover about 50 miles of roads starting just west of route 47 and ending up in West Dundee - about an hour and half drive. This will be a simple rally There are nice roads and a nice ending spot to gather with plenty of parking right next to the Fox River. More info coming up.

Saftey Fast
