Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline May 2011

Spring Tune-up at Quality Tires in Willowbrook

Marc Leuck—owner, Quality Tire of Willowbrook
Saturday, April 30, 2011

This was the 26th or 27th tune-up that Mark Leuck hosted. It started out as a new CMGC event after viewing a Vintage MG Car Club of Chicago tech session at Mark’s Ogden Ave shop in Lyons, Illinois. Mark moved his shop to Darien and then to the present location in Willowbrook and has graciously continued to host the CMGC tune-up event.

This year we had about 30 people and 21 MG's on the lifts. Unexpected visitors included Gene Cooper from Minneapolis and a local police officer who had a Midget under restoration at home. He was probably on his way to the Dunkin Donuts next to Quality Tires when he spotted the event going on. With his police cruiser parked right in front of the shop, he spend at least three times a regular coffee break talking to our Midget owners, shooting pictures and telling stories about his own project. Hopefully he'll be there as a club member next year.

Willowbrook’s finest sharing MG experiences with us.

After the technical work was completed at least 20 people went over to Roundhead's, our Natter 'n' Noggin South home, for food, beer, and more car stories. Mark stopped by to tell about his MGTD and his time as an active member of the Vintage group. Everybody seems to like the new version of the dash plaque, which I will highlight in my column Directions in the next issue of the Driveline.

Thanks to Mark and Cowboy for kicking off the 2011 Driving Season with a great event.
