GOF Central 2017
Akron Ohio
July 11-14, 2017

It rained so much the week before the GOF that the grass in the park where the cars show would be was too soft for the cars. The organizers were able to move the entire show to an empty warehouse just East of Akron. It actually rained on the morning of the cars show too so it could not have been a better decision to change the venue. Although It was your typical warehouse with concrete floor and posts every so many feet, it looked quite picturesque once all the cars had lined up. The cars only filled a small section of the entire space and there was plenty of room to hold the funkhana indoors also.

VMGCC president Bob Lee drove this 1953 TD all the way from Chicago. He took some of the back roads and the trip took much, much longer than he had anticipated.  A minor problem with the spark plugs fouling and some wheel unbalance or misalignment made for a long day. After spending some time on Wednesday to clean and fix the TD, it really looked fantastic in the Thursday show. Even the white walls, one of the few TD sporting those hard to keep clean tires, were spotless.

VMGCC secretary Ray Costa discussing TD intricacies with a fellow MG enthusiast on the car show floor.  The 1952 TD was also driven from Chicago but Ray followed the express ways and made better time than Bob. On the way home on Saturday, the TD broke down on the exact same spot on I-90 in Chicago as it stopped last year on the way home from Louisville, KY. The engine leaks a little bit of oil and after about 600 miles for the trip, some oil mist had entered the distributor and wakened some or all of the spark. Ray was able to push the TD to the shoulder, clean things up, and continue to Gurnee.
