Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline October 2012

  Monthly Meeting Minutes
Third Monday, September 17, 2012

Victor L'Heureux

Attendance: 23 members

President Dino Perez opened the meeting at 8:00 pm.

Car Projects
Seth Jones noted that he assisted Rajbinder Sandhu with a number of problems with his 73 Midget. Electrical problems of worn points, and a bad battery were quickly resolved. The issue with sloppy U-joint and rear brakes are still in progress.
John Kearns also had a number of electrical problems. The engine would ‘miss’ intermittently. The problem was caused by a spark plug wire arcing to the block. This was corrected along with other electrical problems - a faulty ignition switch and replacement of an alternator.

Dan Herman presented for viewing a MG logo flag that he obtained for use at club events. Orders were taken last month and Dan had the flags available for those that ordered them.

Past Events
Garage Tour #2 – The tour started in Western Springs with seven participants and finished in Naperville. Weather was okay although there was a slight drizzle in the final leg of the tour.

Donald M. Healy Rally – 9/8 – This event sponsored by the Austin Healey Club was attended by Barney Gaylord with nine other drivers. It started in Sugar Grove and continued to the Blackberry Inn in Elburn, IL

British Car Festival – 9/9 – The event this year will be held in Palatine at Harper Community College. The CMGC assisted in car marshaling again with this event. Over 530 British cars were in attendance. It was suggested that the vendors be located off to the side allowing an uninterrupted viewing of the cars in the field. It was also suggested that the food vendors provide a more varied menu. Darryl Mayo will take these comments to the followup BCU staff meeting.

Meadowdale Raceway – 9/15 – this unscheduled CMGC event was to be used to highlight the 50th year of the MGB. We had secured 20 spots on the car show grounds for MGB’s although only 9 cars attended. Thirteen vintage race cars were available for viewing.

Upcoming Events: - (additional information available on the CMGC website.)
Wine, Cheese, Beer and Shakespeare Tour – 9/21-23 – This years’ tour will have a record number of cars – over 30 cars!

Fall Color(less) Tour – 10/10 –Dan Herman announced in response to the prompting from folks at the meeting that he reconsidered conducting a fall color tour. With the prospect of poor tree leaf colors the event will be renamed the Fall Color(less) Tour. It will be formatted it as a one-day run with individual options to add a day on either side to make the trip more leisurely if desired.

Halloween Run – 10/28 – This event will start in Prospect Heights and finish for lunch at Emmett's Brewing Co in Palatine. The Vintage MG Car Club will join us on this run.

Tune-Down and Chili party – 11/4 – Dave Bralich noted that this year’s event will follow the same routine as prior years. A car hoist will be available to better service your car and there will be plenty of chili for all.

CMGC Holiday Party – 12/8 – It may be early to think of holiday parties, but not too early to arrange the event. This year we will again hold the event at the Bella Vista Restaurant. We have upgraded the menu and will be utilizing the larger room. We do not anticipate and change in the cost for members.

New Business
PADS Oil Change Day – this event will occur sometime in November. Details to follow.

Club Staff Member nominations - will be accepted starting next month. Please consider filling one of the many positions available.

50-50 Raffle - John Kearns went home $5 richer after having the winning ticket.

  Meeting adjourned at 9:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Victor L’Heureux, CMGC Secretary
