Fall Color(less) Tour
October 10, 2012

The prospect for bright fall colors this year was not good. The drought had affected the trees and the colors were supposed to have been subdued. Boy, were we wrong! The day was clear and crisp and the colors were stupendous!

We started at the home of Dan & Nancy Herman at their Lake Carroll home and departed promptly at 10:00 a.m. for a moderate day's driving in NW Illinois. It was not a long-distance endurance run but rather a drive mostly in Jo Daviess and a little of Carroll Counties.

The tour was experienced by members in six cars with stops at infamous Poopy’s for lunch, Mississippi Palisades for a unique view of the river and bluffs, a quick stop at Frank Fritz Finds in Savannah, and a beer stop in Council Hill Station before departing for home.

Thanks again Dan for a wonderful tour.

Halloween Run
October 28, 2012

“It was a dark and stormy night…” Not! What a great day for a drive— clear (sometimes cloudy) skies and crisp air – a great autumn day. The tour consisted of two T-series cars, one MGA, ten MGB’s and a Morris Minor driven by a British Car Union member. All told, 19 folks enjoyed a fun-filled trip navigating the route through many northwest suburbs (I was surprised at how many farms still exist in this suburban Chicago sprawl). There were many tree-lined winding roads with views of groomed estates and the whiff of burning leaves in the air.
