Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline November 2017

The Steering Column

As I write this there is a tear in my eye, the Cubs have ended their season. Wait until next year is my revised mantra, reminds me of my youth (actually most of my life, except for last year). For my friends (that for something beyond my comprehension) root for the White Sox, you may also become too familiar with the phrase.

Another reason for tears is that the driving season is also at an end. By the time you read this, the Halloween Rally will have passed and probably the Fall Tune down & Chili Party at Cowboys will also be a fond memory.

The Cubs did very well this year. They didn’t win them all. Who could? I also could not “win them all” so I missed some of the club events this year. I did manage to do two of the big ones, the Secrets Tour and the Wine Cheese & Beer Tour. So, like the Cubs, there will be no trophy for Maggie and me this year. Wait until next year. The driving events are my favorites but every club event I have ever participated has been fun. It is not too early to start thinking about a tour or rally or just a short drive to an interesting place for next year’s club calendar. Why wait until next year. Your car and club friends will be very appreciative for the effort. Just let Jamie Shafer or any club officer know what your plans are, and we can help get it on the calendar. Help with planning is also available from fellow members.

Speaking of next year, the Gathering of the Faithful (GOF) will be at Lake Lawn Lodge in Delevan, Wisconsin. This event is now for all MGs so I expect there will be a great turnout. This, along with some hopefully new and the regular club events will make next year one to look forward to when we say “wait until next year”.

Jim Compton The Steering Column
Right Hand Drive
from our Vice-President

At our October meeting we said goodbye to Reinout & Henneke Vogt. No doubt they will be missed. But we all wish them great joy in their new home.

2017 is almost over and it’s club election time again. I really hope you consider running for one of the offices. My year as Vice-President has been fun. This is a great club with lots of good folks. I was pleased to see how many have been club officers in the past. For those that haven’t, it’s fun to use your talents for the good of others. I really hope you will consider running. Yes, I would consider (welcome) a second term.

Early on I asked for ideas for meeting presentations. I didn’t get much response. So, I’m asking again. What would you like to see at our meetings? What other events would you like to see? Bob and I were new tour organizers last month. We got lots of very positive feedback. So yes, we’ll do it again next year. It did take a bit of time to organize the tour and I think doing a rally would be slightly more work. But, if you want driving events. Someone (that means you) needs to plan them. I used Microsoft Visio to create the driving instructions for the All Aboard Tour. If you have Visio, I will gladly share the stencil file I created. I’m sure others that have used other software would also share their templates and hints.

Let’s make 2018 our Best year yet. Thank you all!
Safety Fast
