Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline December 2017

It was early November, Sunday November 5th to be exact, when I awoke to a gift. It was the most precious of gifts -- the gift of time. A free hour. An unaccounted-for time to do whatever I wanted.

I could get a start on my ‘honey-do’ list, find a comfortable chair in the window with the sun shining it to read, or take a drive in Maggie. I could use the time to just stay in bed a little longer but that seemed like a waste of time, even free time.
I ruled out sitting in the sun with a book since that would result in the same as staying in bed -- more sleep. The ‘honey-do’ list has been with me so long that I don't want to ruin our relationship by diminishing it. We have an understanding, it needs to be done and I want it completed but it's getting from one to the other that seems to be the problem, so procrastination seems to work for us.

That left me with the obvious, drive in Maggie. Now where to drive? Old familiar roads that I have traveled on past excursions or find a new road that may become a new favorite for times like this. Do I randomly drive to make this discovery, or do I plan a destination and find a random route to it?

I have found some very nice roads with the random route technique. Just wind your way in the general direction of our destination and a take a turn onto an interesting road. The road may look interesting at the beginning but not be best once you get further along. This happens. Don't be discouraged -- the total new route to your destination may be one to repeat because the sum of the parts makes it a fun experience. I have found in the past that this method of finding new roads is always fun but sometimes time consuming.

So, did I find a new route or even a new interesting road? No. By the time I changed all the clocks in the house, I used up my gift of time. Next fall I will plan my free hour in advance, unless I procrastinate too long.

I want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

At our November meeting Dave Bralich raised a motion to save the club money in the case of an un-contested election. In this day and age sending ballots to every member gets expensive. There are other options such as electronic voting and these will be explored and discussed with the membership over the coming months. Likely this will involve a change to the club articles of incorporation.

Nomination for club officers is now closed. But you can still write in if you want someone that isn’t on the ballot and they are willing to serve. Please consider sharing your expertise in some manor in 2018. Provide a presentation for a club meeting, write an article for the driveline, help with a rally or a tour. The GOF will need lots of us to help. Let’s show the country that the Chicagoland MG clubs are the best in the country!

I hope many you can make it to NAMGBR 2018. I don’t think I can and it makes me sad. But I don’t think my wife will be too happy with me going to Gettysburg for a week then spending most on the next week in Wisconsin at the GOF.

Let’s make 2018 our Best year yet. Thank you all!
