Grinding eyebrows in the block for valve head clearance to accomotate the high lift camshaft. Plenty of assembly lube used for crankshaft bearings and camshaft lobes.

Measurements with a dial indicator and a degree wheel on the crankshaft to check the valve timing. Notice the very thin temporary valve springs used during setup and measurement. This allows one to depress the valve with one finger to check overtravel clearance for the valve head at full lift. Camshaft timing adjustments can be made by skipping the timing chain over a tooth on the sprocket (9 degree increments) and with offset keys for the cam sprocket (+/-4 degrees in 1 degree increments). Nearing end of day, buttoning up the short block assembly and installing the cylinder head. Engine painting and installation of accessory parts will be finished before installing engine in the car at the next tech session..
