Cruise To The Rock
Thanksgiving day -- November 23, 2006

CMGC members at the rock. - I count 21 heads and hats, not including myself holding the camera.

To be driving our cars after most everyone else has stopped driving theirs, we have our traditional tops down cruise to celebrate the first automobile race in America on Thanksgiving day in 1895. The destination is the historical race monument (the rock) on Midway Plaisance at S. Stony Island Avenue in Chicago, just west of the Museum of Science and Industry.

The group started with an 8:00 o'clock gathering of at least nine cars for a caravan at the K-Mart parking lot at Rt-83 and 75th street in Willowbrook. In spite of the clear day, bright sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid 40's, a couple of the cars seemed to prefer tops up. What an odd idea. On arival at the rock about 9:00 a.m. we all crowded into the park, being met by more MGs, and being careful to keep the cars off the grass. Picking through the pictures I count at least 14 MGs in attendance.

After a video interview for local cable TV most of the gang drove up to Stages Restaurant on 31st Street for an early lunch.
