Cruise To The Rock
Thanksgiving day -- November 27, 2007

Some members of our club have been doing this since the inaugural event in 1995 to celebrate the first automobile race in America on Thanksgiving day in 1895. We have our traditional tops down Cruise to the Rock on Thanksgiving day, and this would be our 14th excursion. The "rock" is on Midway Plaisance at S. Stony Island Avenue in Chicago, just west of the Museum of Science and Industry.

The number of MGs will vary from year to year, and it may depend on where and when you look. I suspect these pictures did not catch them all. Years ago it started with almost exclusively MGs in attendance, one year after the 100th anniversary dedication. As time passed the Harley folks showed up, often encouraging their Toys For Tots campaign. Then Rod and Custom cars came, and one year even antique tractors?

This year once again we had something new as the exotic car club made an appearance in force. If you can identify the cars in the next two rows you do far better than I, but it was at least jolly good fun while it lasted.

Then there was one exotic car wanna-be Mustang with swing-up doors, below (seems like a waste of effort to me, but each to his own). There was the usual mix of classic collectibles well presented. The Harley folks were there as usual, and also a nice selection of rod and custom cars.

See report in January Driveline.
