Abingdon '04: The MG Weekend
Popular Vote Car Show
Wash it if you feel like it?
In years past there has been an astounding concours judging car show with shine and polish everywhere. Well, some folks aren't quite into that, or maybe their daily driver MG simply isn't concours. For the last few years the field of entrants has been showing up a little later at the show grounds, washing and polishing a little less, with a few of the cars (present party incuded) retaining their "Badge Of Honor" road dirt. (Well, maybe it depends on where the dirt came from). This year there will be a popular vote car show, with the entrants doing the voting. In addition to the traditional classes of MGs we may find a winning "Voters Choice", or "Diamond In The Rough" (or maybe "Most Likely To .... ???").
Those who take great pride in the preparation and originality of their automobile may like to check out the optional Abingdon Sterling class (with an extra fee) for the best of the best.
Traditionally it takes at least three cars to make up a trophy class. For the purpose of awarding trophies the smaller classes may be combined into larger classes of at least three entries. This will be at the disgression of the event organizers (and subject to change).

RESULTS OF THE 2000 CAR SHOW JUDGING
The Abingdon Summer Party 2000 car show had 122 entrants which were divided into 12 classes. The oldest car was a 1935 MG PB. The newest car was a 1980 MGB. All the cars were driven to the show, even though some were trailered into Galesburg. The number trailerd was under 10. The show was entirely MG with the exception of one lonely Triumph. There were 4 entrants for the STERLING award, 1935 PB, 1949 TD, 1954 TF, and a rubber bumper MIDGET. The results of the show judging and the sterling awards leave some other observations to be made.
1) Sunny August weekends bring out MGs.
2) Most MGs are driven, some for long distances (Ontario, Canada, was the farthest).
3) Most MGs are in good enough shape to show (not mine).
4) Triumph owners are a brave lot.
