The Lucas P700 headlamp is an upgrade from the standard 700 model, and was commonly fitted to more expensive cars such as the MG Z-types and Rover 90 (in other than North American market). It was also sometimes selected as an aftermarket accessory part for other cars as a lighting upgrade or appearance item. In the North American market it would have been technically illegal (in period), as sealed beam lamps were required by law. But usually the police are happy if you have headlights that just light up and do not blind other drivers. The P700 lamp is relatively rare, especially in aftermarket parts, as the market tends to favor a PL700 lamp, which would be the next step up (at least in appearance if not in function).

Difference between the 700 and P700 lamps is the addition of a tripod structure inside holding an additional reflector in front of the bulb (and the Lucas black dot on front). That reflector redirects some upward flowing light back into the rear reflector to send the otherwise wasted light down onto the road, thereby improving road lighting.
