Back in the day, roll bars were not required for racing. But some of these cars were not intended for racing, more like modern restoration tribute cars built to have the appearance of a race car but intended to be driven on the street. There may be a fine line between a dedicated race car and a period correct sports car, as MGA were originally essentially street legal race cars right from the factory. That is what sports car were in the 1950's.
