MGA Guru Is GOING MOBILE
NAMGAR GT-47 Car Show - (June 8, 2022)

I arrived fairly early finding lots of empty spaces. The Premier class seemed to be parked up early at the far end of the lot, so I started there. Best of the best, all prior year class winners. I like the Magnette, just because, well, I like Magnettes, even though I never had one.

The MGA "Deluxe" cars were nearby. There are the Twin Cam chassis with a pushrod engine, far fewer of these (about 360) than Twin Cams (2111). Say Hello to Paul Dierschow from Sports Car Craftsmen Ltd in Arvada, Colorado.

Then the Modified class cars. At right has a Duretec 2-liter engine, a little over 200-BHP. Below is a 3.4-liter 60-degree V6 with a 4-bbl carburetor. The air cleaner is a bit deceptive, as the engine is quite small, so it drops right into the MGA without cutting the frame braces.

The MGA with supercharger is a "tribute" race car, classy looking but civil enough to be a daily driver street car.

Sneaking up on the vintage cars, some more vintage than others. Pretty sure that's a MG TD on the right.

Below, a 1935 MG K3 Magnette (based on the KN chassis). I'll let you read the fine print, but it is bloody impressive for a tiny 6-cylinder engine from way back.

The next 6 pictures are a 1934 MG PA (4-cylinder less than 750-cc) with another supercharger up front. It is amazing how fast these little engines could go, back in the 30's, with up to 30-PSI boost pressure when racing.

Lots of MGB here, with a disproportionate number of BGT. MGC in the same class (if you can spot it, or them).

Eight Z-type Magnette here, counting the one in the Premier class and the one on the trailer (with blown head gasket).

Time flies as I was beckoned to get into the group photo. Left to right, yours truly plus Kelvin Dodd (Moss Motors), Bruce Woodson (Mercer and Woodson Automotive and ex-NAMGAR Chairman), John Twist (University Motors Ltd), and Paul Dierschow (Sports Car Craftsmen Ltd).
Then I had to hustle as it was noonish and cars were beginning to leave, and I hadn't snapped the MGA's yet There were about 60 of those, pretty much all models included. MG EX186 and another very nice Coupe were stuck on display at the hotel.

Last cars leaving, this one was stranded with no-start. They used jumpers at the hotel this morning to get it running to drive here. Now jumpers were not enough. Dead battery for sure. Jumpers got it started, then it died, no voltage. Jumpers to get it going again, doing some diagnostic work, the generator was good, and the regulator seemed to be working as well, so set the idle speed a bit higher and figure on driving it back to the hotel. Sorry, didn't make it, died again a half mile on. More diagnostic with the volt meter 10.3 volts directly on the battery posts dropped to ZERO when trying the crank, so definitely a dead battery, most likely one shorted cell. Yank the 4-year old battery, take the SUV escort vehicle to the nearest auto parts store to swap for a new battery, and all is right with the world again.
