Annual Business Meeting & Club Awards
As a State of Illinois nonprofit corporation, we are required to have one annual general membership business meeting every year. During this year’s general membership business meeting, our officers will present a financial report for 2007, a “State of the Club Address” as well as information on club programs. This meeting is similar to a stockholder’s meeting, where “management” presents last year’s results and fields questions regarding performance. If you have any questions or suggestions to make about club activities and programs, this is your chance! We encourage all members to attend, and we’ll field all questions and comments.
During the meeting, we’ll also present our annual awards to club members. Our club is dedicated to “the preservation and enjoyment of MG automobiles”, and our awards go to those members who have most contributed to this purpose. The traditional club awards are:
Safety Fast – awarded for success in competitive driving;
Maintaining the Breed – awarded for commendable efforts in restoration work;
Ambassador at Large – awarded for promoting goodwill towards the club;
New Member of the Year – awarded for an enthusiastic contribution from a new member
Also now a part of the program is a later addition to the original group:
Cream Crackers – awarded for a contribution to the MG community
12th Annual All British Car Swap Meet & AutoJumble
February 24 marks the date for the 12th Annual All British Car Swap Meet & AutoJumble. This event is organized and conducted by our club alone although it has the enthusiastic support of all the other British Car clubs in Chicago. Since its inception, this event has grown steadily over the years to the point where we now have about 100 vendor spaces occupied when we open the doors to the public. Repeat vendors include well-known firms such as Little British Car Company, British Wiring and Triple-C, and also more specialized vendors such as Spridgitech, Prix Parts, Riverside Motors and more. This event now attracts buyers and sellers alike from a multi-state area. Vendor offerings include parts, tools, regalia and memorabilia items, and more. The Swap Meet has become the major fund raiser for the club. This year, club members can earn “MG Bucks” by helping out. Whether you lend a hand or come as a shopper, don’t miss this fun event in an otherwise dreary month.
Club Project Car For Sale
As mentioned last month, the club project car remains available for purchase by club members through the month of February. This 1977 MGB was refurbished by club members over the last year and has many new/rebuilt parts as well as a fresh paint job. The car is stored for the winter in the western suburbs and is available for inspection by calling Jim Evans at 630-858-8192.
MG Bucks Are Back Again!
The club will be continuing it’s “MG Bucks” program during 2008. Club members will have the opportunity to earn “MG Bucks” by attending certain events and for meeting other criteria set forth by the club officers through out the year. Last year, club members earned “MG Bucks” that can be used to defray dues cost and contribute to purchasing club regalia. Events qualifying for “MG Bucks” will be identified in the Driveline and at club meetings. As with last year, club members may begin earning “MG Bucks” by wearing an “MG event” t-shirt to monthly club meetings. This program includes T-shirts, polos and button down shirts but does not include any caps or any club regalia or any generic MG regalia: only items from an MG event such as a convention, rally, car show, or similar event will be eligible and the letters “MG” or the octagon logo must be identified on the item. One award per item, please: “MG Bucks” awarded only for the first time you wear it. By wearing and talking about “MG event” items we hope to get us all thinking about attending new events this year. “MG Bucks” will also be awarded for helping with the All British Car Swap Meet & Autojumble; look for the pink: MG Bucks” sign up sheets at the event.
