Land’s End Rally
June 8, 2008
On June 8 we'll be having the Land's End Rally. We'll meet up at 9:30am at Campton Forest Preserve, just west of St. Charles, located on Town Hall Road. Go west on Rt. 64 approximately 5 miles west of Randall Road and turn left (south) on Town Hall Road. The preserve is on the left hand side. That's where we'll start, and we'll end at a state park and have a picnic lunch. You'll find out about the “inbetween” from your rally instructions.
What to bring: A working odometer will help, but if yours doesn't work come anyway; your kid or grandkid to navigate - if you have neither you can still come; a clipboard will be helpful and pencils will be essential; a dish to pass - call or e-mail me to say what you'll bring. I will bring meat to grill, the fire, beverages, and coolers to transport the chow from the start to finish.
This rally will be about taking a nice drive, not on commuter routes, but on mostly fun rural roads with a game attached. You will not get a list of "clues" so cryptic that they take the fun out of the rally by forcing you to drive along at half the speed limit, back up traffic, and read every sign at every strip mall. This rally is also the only rally or tour left until late August that does not involve long mileage or hotels, so get on out here. Like Bill's spring tour, there's food involved, so RSVP to me. Most importantly, bring the kids!

Secrets of Jo Daviess County
- and Beyond, July 11-13, 2008
The third annual Secrets of Jo Daviess County Tour has been scheduled for the weekend of July 11-13, 2008. The MG enjoyable weekend will begin with an afternoon reception at the Lake Carroll home of the Herman’s for those who wish to travel to the area on Friday. After the reception we’ll dine at the Yellow Creek Inn with the famous fish fry so popular last year. The host hotel for that night will again be the Country Inn and Suites at Stockton.
The Saturday launch will be from the Country Inn parking lot at 10 am. Our route will take us to a short winery stop then through some new venues in Jo-Daviess County before crossing into Wisconsin. We’ll use a ferryboat to cross the Mississippi River into Iowa. We’ll work our way along the river to a famous overlook of the juncture of the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers and end the day at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Dinner, lodging and parking lot party in Prairie du Chien.
Sunday we’ll run cross-country in southwest Wisconsin. The tour breaks here and you will be free to choose your way home.
If you plan to join us please send me an e-mail of your intentions, including whether you will attend the reception, to danherm@jcwifi.com. I’ll then put you on my distribution list and keep you posted of information and developments regarding the tour.
We hope to see you then for some genuine MG driving enjoyment.

Declare Your Independence -
MG 2008
MG 2008 will be from June 25 to 29 in Valley Forge. The original host hotel is completely booked. They have added a second hotel with rooms available Thursday through Saturday. We have five couples planning to attend. These conventions are a fun way to make new friends from all across the country and visit with old friends. The last news I heard was that they expect over 350 cars at the show.
Ann and I are organizing a caravan again and we would like to have you join us. Call or email us if you are interested in having a great time in Pennsylvania.
The event web site is www.mg2008.com. There is an event calendar and links to local attractions. The registration form is there to download. You do not have to be NAMGBR members to participate so all MG’ers are welcome.

University Motors
In the last newsletter we announced the University Motors Octagon Party. Since that time we have received the details.
The party starts on Thursday August 7th with registration at the hotel. On Friday, 08-08-08 we leave the hotel at 08:00 AM for a picnic at the beach in Kirk Park. And on Saturday there will be vendors and city tours.
The host hotel is the Hilton, and many of our members also like to stay at the Exel Inn across the street.
John Twist from University Motors furthers announces:
The 2008 University Motors Octagon Party is designed to be a low-key event, reminiscent of our first summer party in 1977. Rally’s, awards plaques, a special guest, a large banquet, a featured model, a panoramic picture, individual photographs, ribbons, will have to wait for another year! Our special guests this year will be those who attended our first party in 1977!
I know that several of our club member were there in 1977 and we hope that they will join is again this year. This is going to be your only, once in a lifetime, unique, never to happen again, 08-08-08 chance. Don't miss it!
Please call University Motors at 616 682 0800 for further questions and we'll plan our caravan in next month's Driveline.
