Lincoln Highway Tour
August 8, 2009
Between 1915 and 1925, many miles of American roads were tied together under the name “Lincoln Highway”. This road has entered American history as a companion in thought to the more popular “Rt 66”. The original route ran from Times Square in NYC to San Francisco and was one of the first completely paved routes to cover that distance.
The Lincoln Highway entered Illinois east of Joliet in Chicago Heights and left Illinois at Fulton on the Mississippi. The original route has been researched and re-marked by a strong volunteer organization, and we will follow it from the Batavia area to western Illinois near Dixon, and possibly all the way to Fulton.
This is a one day tour, starting about 9 AM with an early afternoon stop in Franklin Grove, IL. The route is mostly country roads at moderate speeds, and we will stop briefly at a few historically significant points along the way. Mark your calendar now if you would like to join us. More publicity in later Drivelines, and there is plenty of info on the web about the Lincoln Highway if you care to research a little history before we leave.

Wine Cheese and Beer Tour 2009 –
Michigan Lights
September 18-20th
Spring is finally here and we are ready to begin a new driving season!
Mark your calendars for the fifth Wine, Cheese, and Beer Tour, September 18-20, 2009!
We are heading in a new direction this year and are calling the tour WCB-Michigan Lights.
We will meet in Stevensville, Michigan on Friday and Saturday. Ann and I have reserved a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at the Baymont Inn. The phone number is 268-428-9111. Please call the hotel and make your reservations under the Chicagoland MG Club’s block or group number 577-981684. The block expires August 16th.
We will dine nearby on Friday evening. The tour will begin at 8 AM Saturday from the Baymont’s parking lot. We will be visiting a winery and some of the Lighthouses along the Lake Michigan shore and enjoying the scenic drive.

Driving Events
We have a couple of driving events this season that are looking for hosts. This season we have added the Lincoln Highway Tour. Jim Evans will be handling that one. However, we do have two traditional club events that could use some help. First is the Lucas Nighttime Rally to be held on August 29th. We are also looking for someone to handle the Halloween Rally on October 25th.
