Lincoln Highway Tour - continued
roadways away from the old Lincoln Highway route, leaving some towns bypassed.
The history of the Lincoln Highway says that the Federal government switched to a program of numbered roads, rather than named roads, before the Lincoln Highway was completed. Thus came to prominence more well publicized numbered roads, such as US RT 66, while many named roads lost their identity. The Lincoln Highway was only a footnote in history books for many years until a group of volunteers began researching the route some 20 years ago; the complete route has been identified and remarked with special signs that we will be following…but now you know why you may have been told over the years to “take 30” or “take 38” to your destination instead of being told “take the Lincoln Highway”.
This tour will take place regardless of the weather. Please check out the club website for more information,

Wine Cheese and Beer Tour 2009 –
Lights and Libations
September 18-20th
Hi everyone. We have changed the name of the tour. Ann liked Lights and Libations better than my idea. I like her idea better. I published the wrong area code for the hotel last month also. The number should be (269) 428-9111. Mark your calendars for the fifth annual Wine, Cheese, and Beer Tour, September 18-20, 2009!
We are heading in a new direction this year and are calling the tour WCB-Lights and Libations. We will meet in Stevensville, Michigan on Friday and Saturday. Ann and I have reserved a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at the Baymont Inn. The phone number is 269-428-9111. Please call the hotel and make your reservations under the Chicagoland MG Club’s block or group number 577-981684. The block expires August 16th.
We will dine nearby on Friday evening. The tour will begin at 8 AM Saturday from the Baymont’s parking lot. We will be visiting a winery and some of the Lighthouses along the Lake Michigan shore and enjoying the scenic drive. On Sunday, we will stop for lunch at a brew pub in Indiana by the Michigan City Lighthouse. There are two museums nearby. The lighthouse museum in the old lighthouse and Ragg Tops auto museum.
We finalized the plans in early June. We expect another fun weekend. If you are attending this event, please let us know your plans and send your email address as soon as possible.
Hope you all can join us!

Driving Events
We have a couple of driving events this season that are looking for hosts. This season we have added the Lincoln Highway Tour. Jim Evans will be handling that one. However, we do have two traditional club events that could use some help. First is the Lucas Nighttime Rally to be held on August 29th. We are also looking for someone to handle the Halloween Rally on October 25th.
Running an event is a lot of fun and allows you to give back to the club. If you have an interest in hosting an event, please contact Driving Events Coordinator, Seth Jones, drivingevents@chicagolandmgclub.com
