We are back!
Our West Coast Road Trip was fantastic. We were in 13 states, British Columbia, eight National Parks and Monuments, and covered 5560 miles. The cars ran great, the weather cooperated, and the scenery was magnificent.
MG2005 was held at the Red Lion Inn in Olympia, WA. It was a beautiful facility. One of the best parts was that the car show and awards banquet was held at the hotel. The show was originally scheduled to be on the lawn, but rain on Friday left the ground too soggy, so the show was moved to the parking lot. There were about 150 cars in the show and they looked beautiful sitting under the pine trees. You can find out about our trip out to the show in this issue.
I want to thank Bob Simon for agreeing to take over as Driveline editor effective with this issue. I especially want to thank Barney Gaylord for five plus years of service in that most important post. Thanks, Barney
Here's some news on upcoming events:
We have changed the date of the Wine, Cheese and Beer tour to avoid conflict with the Abingdon Weekend. The new dates are September 17 and 18. There is a showing of Macbeth at the American Players Theater under a full moon on the 17th. As a result, the September Autocross will now be on the 25th of September. There is more information in this issue and on the web site.
There is a cruise night in Aurora on August 5, which is a Chicagoland MG Club event. I hope many of you can make the drive.
The University Motors Summer Party and the 13th Annual Grand Lake Tour will be held in Grand Rapids, MI, August 18 - 21. Several members of our club go every year and report that a great event can be expected. I won't be driving the endurance rally this year as I have run out of vacation time, but Ann and I are going to try to make the trip for Friday and Saturday at the party.
Larry's Laugh A Long Rally is August 21. I will be back from University Motors to run it. Hope lots of you can join us.
There will be an Autocross in Warrenville on August 28.
Start planning now for the 19th Annual British Car Festival September 11th at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. Cowboy needs volunteers for traffic control. It is a great way to spend the day viewing all Marques of British cars and the Austin Healy club's rally will be for club points this year.
The driving season is just warming up, (literally) so get your cars out for all the events you can.
See you on the road!
