Meeting Minutes-July
Monday, July 21, 2008
Attendance: 36 members
The meeting was called to order at 8:06 pm by Vice-President, Dean Swanson. New (2007) member Brian Slick of Manhattan, IL was recognized. Welcome Brian.
Current Projects - Barney Gaylord finished up his unplanned restoration just in time to take a 1,300 mile ‘road test’ to the MGA Twin Cam 50 Anniversary Golden Jubilee held near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All went well. John Schroeder wasn’t so lucky. On the way back from the MG 2008 event in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, his oil pressure dropped to zero and water temperature zipped up to over 130 degrees. Pinging was heard above the noise of truck traffic on the expressway. After a quick exit, the culprit was found – a ruptured oil pressure hose sitting over the starter motor. How many times have you removed and reinstalled this hose and not replacing it? In addition, John noted that some lobes on his camshaft were flattened. His car is still in an Ohio garage getting repaired.
Past Events - Dean noted the past events participated by club members.

Road America camping and raceway experience - Elkart Lake, WI

Project Car – Has been sold to a new club member – Tom Tovello of Addison, IL. A lot of hard work and effort went into making this a fine touring vehicle - hope to see you on the road soon!
eBay Parts Program – A program to list select saleable items on a website auction has been developed by David Evans (no relation to Jim Evans) and the first items are now listed.
Guest Speaker – Ray Piotter of Vanilla Gorilla Coating Systems gave the club members an overview of powder coating. New processes and technology has made powder coating a viable way to coat many structural parts and accessories with a durable finish that is stronger than paint. Ceramic coating and High-Performance engine coatings can be used on parts that need to face extreme heat. Based locally, Ray can be reached at 630-668-3045.
Next Month – A representative from BP Oil Company.
50/50 Raffle – Tim Tonry went home $14 richer from the raffle.
Meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm

Natter ‘N Noggin -
The Search is Coming to an End!
|
Last Month we tried a Mullen's in Lisle for a last time. Unfortunately we couldn't sit outside on the patio, because a rainstorm came through the area just as we were coming in. Since it has been almost a year now that we've been looking for a new location for our monthly Natter 'N Noggin and it is slowly getting time to make up our minds.
But not before we have tried two more ideas. The first idea is the new location for Roundhead's and I have one more suggestion for September. On August 12 we'll be at Roundhead's in Lombard. They are located on Roosevelt Road, about one mile East of I-355, on the south side of Roosevelt. The manager, Jay Nagy, will set-up some tables and booths in the front of the restaurant. They know that we don't come in at the same time and that we need separate checks.
