Morris Garages Rally
October 13, 2007
The Morris Garages Rally was the first rally I had ever written or organized. I had only just competed in my first rally just a few months before. I had much to learn and Barney was very helpful in learning the ropes. The main idea behind this event was to have an MG theme without having to travel all the way to Abingdon Illinois. The rally began in North Aurora and headed south along a variety of roads to Morris Illinois. Along the way were many whimsical questions, a few of them related to the British motor industry, and some related to interesting things seen on the way. Once in Morris, participants drove around through town answering questions specifically related to the garages in town (referred to as MGs in the rally instructions). There were five cars that competed.
First Place with 35 points went to Vic L'Heureax (driver) and Jim Evans (navigator) in Vic's 1967 MGB
Second Place with 34 points went to David Lieb (driver/navigator) in his 1972 Midget
Third Place with 33 points went to Steve (driver) and Liz (navigator) Gorr in their 1978 MGB.
All the cars finished and the final points were only one point apart. A good time was had by all, despite one glaring error in the instructions, but I am learning. I'd like to do this again next year. The driving season is coming to a close for the year and its about time to compile the results of all the rallies and autocrosses. A big thank you to all those who participated. I hope to see you all next year and hopefully with a few new faces.
