The Mongrel – my 1972 (sort of) MGB is a collection of different years. It is a “mixed” breed!
There is one thing about the Mongrel that is original and that is its color…..sort of!? The car was originally painted in British Leyland’s “flame” colour. In being a “bit” of a purist, I did not want to change that colour to BGR or black (my favorites) because the cost of doing it right i.e. paint the car inside and out, would be too costly.
So off to Macco it went where it was first painted a Camero orange and then a Volkswagen orange. So much for my car – what about MGs in general?
Many “classic” colors such as the MG white, black, yellow sky blue and yes – BRG! But…….NO silver! Why is that? Who made the color decisions at Abingdon anyway? Why no silver?
Why am I asking about the color silver anyway? Well, everywhere you look today, when it comes to cars, any cars, you see silver! Silver Miatas, silver BMWs, silver Porches, silver G6s, silver G8s, silver Corvettes, mini vans, SUVs and even “sort of” SUVs. Silver, silver, silver! Everything today is silver. I don’t own a silver car but if I did I would quickly lose the damn thing in a mall parking lot…….in that sea of silver. I hate the color silver!
MGs were never painted the color silver at the factory and, of course, never will (at least as we know them today)!

Suddenly, orange isn’t looking so bad! Here’s to the MG and non-conformity!
