MGB in for overdrive service

was finally disconnected and extracted from the boot (remind me never to buy a Jag). The rusty MG Midget has a fresh engine and gearbox (not installed yet) and new floor pans (looking better each week). A mid-70's Ford Ranger truck has a fresh V8 engine finished, and the transplant installation is progressing nicely. An MGB propshaft was rebuilt with new U-joints (just for a tech session). Alfa Romeo front brake calipers were rebuilt and back on the car, while the rear ones are 3/4 through the process (being done on a learning curve by a newbie). We encountered another "hybrid" mismatched MGA propshaft containing two sliding splines. Still chasing failing brake light pressure switches (for

other people) and cut open a few more to verify the failure mode. The low cost running silver MGB has evolved to getting the bonnet sanded down for refinishing and repaint. I finally found enough time to disassemble my MGA speedometer and reset the main odometer, to reinstate the 2275 miles we lost with a broken drive cable way back in late March. We got to tinker with a minor repair on an MGB overdrive gearbox, and a fresh start disassembling a very rusty MGB engine for intended rebuild.

We got to visit one more new shop, Hunt Automotive in Fort Myers, Florida, referred there by a friend from a prior club meeting. The place is fairly large with a few employees, several cars in process at any given time, and lots of indoor storage. The owner has a couple vintage race cars for his personal toys. Over the month we had several walk-in visitors, including a few from Illinois and one shop owner from Long Island New York who winters in Florida and wanted to chat over lunch. We found a new friend with a newly acquired MG TF, which he keeps in a very nice "condo garage" in Fort Myers (we should do a tech article about that concept sometime).

We are now finally heading north, but it may be another 10 days or so before we break out of Florida. Meanwhile, follow our follies at: http://MGAguru.com/mobile
