Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline March 2017

Due to a miss-communication, the information for the Dan Herman Memorial Secrets of Jo Daviess County Tour for the February Driveline was left on the cutting room floor. Victor did some sweeping and it should be in this month's edition. My apologies to all.

What's trending? Weather, specifically our weather is headlining everyone's small talk. The weather guys have become our best friends over the past couple of weeks. Did Global Warming just take a big leap in the direction of perpetual warmth for the Midwest? Who needs Hawaii? While brooding over my lack of opportunity to take Maggie out for a drive during this freaky, warm February, I started to think about how global warming could affect our club and the club's driving events. Just imagine … the Spring Chicken Run could be in February, Jo Daviess Tour possibly in April, and the Beer, Wine and Cheese Tour might be in December. The Driving Events Coordinator thinks he has a rough time now filling the events calendar. Reinout could be looking at scheduling twelve months of driving events if Al Gore's projections prove accurate. My daydream abruptly ended when hearing my best friend, the weather guy, report that we will have temps in the 30s this weekend. Advisedly, we will wait for a longer warming trend before scheduling driving events in the winter months.

Until we are wearing grass skirts in Chicago keep up the warm thoughts. Spring is near.

from our Vice-President

I have to admit, I’ve got a bad case of spring fever. During our last meeting listening to Ann and Cowboy talk about the indoor racing school. It really fired my imagination. As many of you know I’ve really enjoyed the autocross and the rallies. I’m sure many boys dream of being a race car driver. I remember watching the Indy 500 and formula 1 races with A J Foyt, and Mario Andretti. I thought that was so cool. I think that’s one of the reasons I have a MG.

How about you? What are you passionate about? How did this passion lead you to an MG? Our driving season will be starting soon. Is your MG ready? I have my list of projects that didn’t get done yet. I’ m looking forward to the club swap meet March 19th. I’ m hoping to find a set of wheels. I’ m thinking about getting a set of race tires for doing autocross. I’m hoping this will help me be more competitive.

I’m beginning to believe I may need another MG, a trailer and so forth. My wife will kill me! Well I can dream.
