Left Hand Drive
from our President
|
Well first off as your new uncontested President I'd like to thank everyone for your votes and support. I was told all I had to do was strike the gavel at the beginning and again at the end of the monthly meetings but looks like there's more the office than just that. I hope you'll be patient with me while I get adjusted to my new position.
If your anything like me, Spring and driving season can't get here soon enough. I did have the occasion to bring one of my roadsters out of hibernation due to the transmission going out on my van. Really was nice driving for a couple days while the trans was being repaired. On the down side the repairs put a real dent in my MG budget.
The good news is the MG V8 is running and very close to taking the first test drive. I would like to thank the members of the club who came by to help with the project. It sometimes seems a daunting task to accomplish such a large project by myself but becomes less overwhelming when friends come but to help. So, wish me luck on the test drive and I hope that groundhog was wrong about that shadow thing.
Safety Fast!

Right Hand Drive
from our Vice-President
|
It won’t be too much longer, and we’ll be into our 2018 driving season. Jamie has been working hard on getting a schedule of driving events together. It’s occurred to me that we do a lot of events in a short period of time each season. Getting the schedule together is a big task. I’m thankful I don’t have more to do with it.
Bob and I are working on another tour to the Illinois Railway Museum this fall. But when I contacted them with the proposed dates I was told I’m “trying to square the circle”. That sounds real British to me. I had to look it up. It is initially an ancient Greet mathematical challenge. Where you construct a square of the same area using a compass and straight edge. Way too math-geek for me. But this task was proven impossible in 1882 at the time when Mathematical pi was proven to transcendental. Again, too math-geek for me.
But the slang use of that expression is, I’m trying to do the impossible. It’s not that the Railway museum is saying no, we can’t come back. Bob and I want to return when they are running the steam engines. And that’s the fly in the ointment. As I’m sure you can all appreciate. Running an older vehicle risks breaking parts that are not easy to get. So, like us they only run their vehicles in specific conditions. Nicer weather, lots of folks to enjoy them, special dates, and as such they are still working out their schedule of when and what engines to run.
But, they expect that the steam trains will be back in hibernation by the times we’ve proposed for our return visit. So back to Jamie I go, with some begging and arm wrestling we’ll see if we can work something out. So, stay tuned. I may yet square the circle.
Ray Hanson proposed a new column for the Driveline “My first British Car”. That idea got me thinking about who I should blame (thank) for this addiction. When did I get bit by the LBC bug? Well maybe I’ll be able to articulate that later. What about you? Since we all suffer/enjoy this common illness. How did you get the bug? Write it up and send it in to Vic. It will make his job easier and we’ll all enjoy hearing about how you got involved with MG’s.everyone.
That’s enough rambling for this month. As always, I ask, beg, plead, get involved! Share your stories, knowledge and experience. Help with a rally or tour. Help with the swap meet, the GOF, the British car festival or any other such events. The more you help the better the club is for everyone.
Thank you all!
