Autocross

Coming up, May 20th is our first Autocross of this year’s driving season. We will be joining our friends with the Windy City Miata Club at Boomers Stadium in Schaumberg. Remember to register two weeks before (May 6th) at www.motorsportreg.com . So it’s time to get your car ready. If you have questions about what you may need to attend to please contact Dean, Tim or myself.

I’m planning on being at the Spring Tune Up so that would be a great place to go over your car and make sure you’re ready for some autocross fun! We have planned five autocross events this year. Four with the WCMC and one with our friends with the Austin Healey Club. ALL of these are held in parking lots and are low speed autocrosses LSAX ( Less than 30 mph).

I did go to the Indoor Racing school, sponsored by the North Suburban Sports Car Club out at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. There they run high speed auto cross HSAX (more than 60 mph). To run an MG on the high speed autocross will require much more safety equipment than is required for the LSAX. In both cases you are racing against the clock (yourself). I think I might like to try the HSAX someday. The school was real good. I learned a couple of things about car handling that may help me a little. But it really comes down to seat time. Since I broke my car I didn’t get to run the track. But, I did get to snap this picture of some of my classmates touring the track.
