Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline April 2018

Spring is finally here ! Time to pull the MGs out of hibernation pull out the moth ball and fire'em up !

As I shared at the meeting the 1977 V8 MGB is on the road. Still have a few lurking gremlin to be sorted out but that's almost to be expected after a complete nut and conversion. Not sure if I'll be in a hurry to do another conversion any time soon.

On the other hand I did get a chance to start up my 1979 "B" checked the oil, added fresh gas and it drove great. I can't wait till the driving season begins.

Back in the shop somehow a Triumph TR6 snuck into my garage for a minor engine rebuild, valve job with some porting and polishing along with a new cam and followers. Once a car starts coming apart it's hard to know how far to go and where to stop. I guess time will tell.

The driving schedule looks almost overloaded but Great!. I hope to see a great turn out this year for the up coming rally and tours. If anyone need a hand getting there MG road-worthy don't hesitate to ask. That's all for now keep'em on the road and remember...

Safety Fast!

from our Vice-President

The 2018 Swap Meet is in the bag. I really want to thank Jim Evans for all the hard work he’s put into this event each and every year.

We’ve tried to open this up to some other car brands. This year the Windy City Miata Club joined us. I was glad to see them there. I’ve had some talks with the Healey club and the Alpha Romeo club. They seem to have many of the same issues we have. Not enough event coordinators to organize events. The CGMC and our sister club the VMGCC have been rather successful because we’ve joined forces and opened our events to each other. Maybe we should start inviting others like the Healey, Lotus, and Triumph clubs to our events as well? Just a thought.

I would love it if we could get more of our 200 plus members out to more of our events. If you’re one of those folks that haven’t been to a meeting, or on one of the driving events in a while, drop me a note if you need something to help you make it out this season.

Dean has been talking about getting a couple of traveling “Garage Squads” going to help folks get their cars back on the road. Can’t drive? Maybe you can be someone’s navigator. Events too far away? Let us know. Maybe we can get something closer for you, or maybe we can twist your arm into organizing a event in your area.

Your car isn’t a concourse beauty? Well, neither is mine! But, if we want to share our love of MGs, we need to get them out and show the world these cars are loads of fun!

Ray Costa is looking for help with this year’s GOF. He can be reached via email at rlincoln314159@gmail.com or by phone at 217-390-5300. Please help where and how you can. A job shared is half the work.

Thank you all!
Safety Fast
