Monthly Column of Driving Events
The 2014 Driving Events have begun. We’ve had two Bangs already, the Spring Tune Up and the Spring Brunch. And it is not too late to schedule your participation for the remaining Bangs of the opening month of the driving season, the Spring Chicken Rally and the Spring Tour. (If you wonder what is meant with Bangs, please check my column in the April issue?)
June is a little bit different Month with some multiple-day and more-miles events. The Secrets of Jo Daviess County Tour, the NAMGBR convention in French Lick, IN, and the Lands End Trial and Rally. There should be details about these events in this issue and on our web sites. And if you need more information, Dan and Nancy Herman, John and Ann Schroeder, and Russ and Amy Mehaffey the organizers, rally masters, or tour leaders will be happy to help you. Also on the June calendar is the Austin Healy Autocross. Steve Cantrall at 630 338 7800 can tell you more about it. And speaking of Autocross. The Windy City Miata Club called me about their Autocross program. Although we have no coordinator this year, Pat Marcus wanted us to know that the MG’s are very welcome. Information can be found at www.windycitymiataclub.com .
2014 is going to be an important year for the Driving Events Programs of the VMGCC and the CMGC. When we joined the programs for the first time last year, everybody was enthusiastic and it went even better than we could have hoped for. My motto “MGs are good so more MG’s is even better”
worked and we saw old-old MGs at events sponsored by

CMGC members and new-old MG’s at events sponsored by VMGCC members. Was that just curiosity, see how the other guys are going? Or will it work again this year: a true bunch of MG friends that like to drive our cars together and hang out together. I think it should be no problem at all, let’s go for it!
Please take a good look at the 2014 schedule and pick some events that you would like to participate. Block the calendars at home, at work, in the garage, on your smart phone, and on the refrigerator. If you really plan for it and make it part of the family summer schedule it becomes easier to realize your plans and you’ll be able to drive your MG in our club events. And in case you have any technical problems, the clubs have a wealth of information and helpful people to assist you or your MG to make it ready so you can enjoy the rides.
Also note that we’ll have an extra event that was not on the calendar before. Jim Evans will be hosting a Garage Sale at the CMGC locker. Many, donated, parts will be available, mostly for the newer cars. But everybody is welcome. If you liked the swap meet but realized that you forgot to buy some parts when you came home, this is your chance. Lots of stuff, real good prices. See the announcement for details.
As always, please give me a call at 847 342 9804 or email me at reinoutvogt@gmail.som if you have questions or suggestion. I love to hear from you.
