Autocross

The first autocross of the season will be on Saturday April 30th. At this time the registration is closed. All 75 slots have been filled — 5 by MG’s! I am one of those five and I’m a bit nervous. You see I currently have both seats out of the car for new cushions and I’ve finally started rebuilding the front suspension. I did the rear suspension last year.

I got the driver’s side apart with a lot of effort and a new sawzall blade. I had reason to expect trouble with the trunnion bolts and found that both the upper and lower bolts are rusted solid in the distance tubes. I had experienced this issue with Bill Kalafut and Steve Skegg when Steve replaced the bushes in Bill’s 1970 MGB. I’m pushing hard to get my car back together before the autocross. Our next autocross will be on June 5th with the Austin Healey club. Well my most recent Moss order arrived today so back to work. Time’s running out….

The Miata club Autocross runs the entire day. There is a morning session and an afternoon session. During a session you will drive, work and rest. The sequence will depend on which run group you’re in. New drivers are usually in the first run group so that some of the coaches are able to ride with you and help with pointers.

Our cars are generally the oldest out on the track. This causes much interest. We have been asked for rides by other participants. Many of these folks have never ridden in an MG. So come on out, share your love of LBC’s and have fun.
