Sometimes I think our cars have an attitude.
I needed to move the MG out of the heated garage to make room for a carpentry project. It was early April…good weather, right? Well as you know, the temperature dropped to record lows and copious amount of snow fell.
Near the end of March, I attempted to start the car for the journey to the Spring Tune-up… all I got was a lot of high-speed cranking from the newly-replaced starter, then nothing! Dead silence... well, there was some clicking of the solenoid. I made the event in another vehicle and would tend to the MG later.
Well, after doing some troubleshooting and testing the battery at NTB (tested fine), I put things back together, stuck my arm through the driver’s window, turned the ignition key…. Instant start! No choke, no coaxing. I swear the car was mocking me and getting even for putting it out in the cold & snow. (I suspect there is a thermal cutoff inside the High-torque starter that caused the shutdown.)
See you on the road…
