Spring Tour 2015
Pontiac, Illinois
May 15, 16, 17, 2015
On Friday morning, a small but adventurous group of 2 TDs, a B and 2 other cars, met for breakfast at a restaurant in Bolingbrook IL. Caravanning south we quickly picked up old route 66. After frequent stops at attractions such as an old gas station and 50’s drive in we arrived in Pontiac Illinois.
After lunch, we explored the town and its many museums, murals, and attractions --Route 66 Museum, the Livingston County War Museum, the Museum of the Gilding Arts, the Walldog Mural Museum --to name a few.
The town of Pontiac is aggressively seeking tourism and we were not disappointed with the hospitality. We were also joined by a late arriving TD and a TF for some tailgating snacks followed by a group dinner. Saturday morning there was a private tour of the Pontiac/Oakland Automobile Museum followed by a tour, led by the mayor of Pontiac, of the studio of a very talented local airbrush artist. His work was unbelievable. There was also yet another tour of a private Pontiac car collection Saturday evening the town of Pontiac hosted a cruise night which included our cars. Another group dinner followed. Sunday morning we all reluctantly headed back to reality.
Many thanks to Ric and Nancy Maitzen for yet another successful and enjoyable spring outing.
