Car Care Safety Clinic for Seniors
May 14, 2016
Once again, the Naperville and Lisle Townships Triad had a very successful Car Care Safety Clinic for Seniors (50+) in Lisle on May 14th, due to many participating volunteers who
donated their time and talents, making sure that the vehicles driven by seniors are operating safely. The semiannual event provides a free comprehensive 40-point inspection of vehicles driven by senior drivers. The Chicagoland MG Club has been a mainstay of “car guys” who have participated for the past several years, and a special thank you goes to fellow club members Rich Meservey, Scott Boyer, and Geoff Morris.
This spring, on a chilly morning, a total of 62 vehicles were inspected during the four-hour event. In assembly line fashion, vehicles are brought into the shop, and inspection crews check all the lights, turn signals, flashers etc. before the tire inspection station. In the third check station, our inspectors check window glass, wipers, and perform thorough under-the-hood checks of belts, fluids and battery condition. As many as six cars are in the inspection shop at any given time. This year, AAA & AARP were also on hand for CARFiT inspections, which focus on how the senior driver fits in his or her car for optimal safe driving.
Keeping the senior drivers occupied while their cars are being inspected, the clinic featured safety informational tables from Triad, local and county law enforcement and of course, one giant table full of snacks, doughnuts, coffee, beverages, and other goodies. A photo station allowed seniors to have complimentary souvenir photos taken of them sitting in the vintage and antique cars that are on display. The Model T club had several vehicles on display along with our MGs for this attraction. Mark your calendars for the fall event on October 15th. It’s a valuable and rewarding experience!
