Quad 4 dohc in MGB, 200 HP
200 HP). In case you may be interested, there's another Quad Four engine sitting in the corner looking for a new home. By day's end we were visiting Hans Ryser in Durango, CO. We had been after him for four years, missed him twice in 2015 and 2017. This time we had to hold off for one extra day until he returned from a business trip. He has a nicely restored MGA that had some knocking problem with the rebuilt engine a few years ago. I wasn't there at the time to help diagnose it. The ultimate solution was an MGB 1800 engine with some minor improvements, like high compression pistons for the high altitude. I got to give it a bit of a tune-up, fixing bad ignition timing. With a little time to spare we gave my MGA oil changes in the gearbox and differential. Finally, I had time to autopsy the heater valve that had failed a few weeks earlier to extract the failed rubber diaphragm.

Failed heater valve, just 10 months

It's clean? How did that happen?

Failed fuel gauge, burned coil

Two days later we landed in Canyon City, CO to visit Ed Coyle. We had been chasing him for four years, missing him a couple times in Wisconsin before he moved to Colorado. We graciously got stuck here for a few days with friendly chat and a little inspection and tweak of his MG Midget. Also had time to change out our failed fuel gauge and wiper motor and give the MGA and trailer a good wash down. We found a recently cracked headlight, so took the time to install the Ciebe headlamps we have been hauling around in the trailer for more than two years. We managed to pass the Memorial Day holiday weekend here, getting caught up with a lot of WiFi grunt work including posting this report for your enjoyment.
