The Lake Michigan Grand Lake Tour
August 15-16, 2013
The Grand Lake Tour started in 1993 as a 1000 mile endurance rally around Lake Michigan to prove the endurance of British cars and their drivers. This year's Rally is part of University Motors' MG Summer Party Reunion in Grand Rapids, MI.
The 2013 Grand Lake Tour will take place on Thursday August 15 and Friday August 16, 2013. This year’s rally marks the 20th anniversary of the first of these events in August 1993.
The GLT is a test of the endurance of man and machine and is open to all British cars built prior to 1981. The rally is a navigational challenge, and is not a Time-Speed-Distance event. Teams (one car, a driver, and co-driver) are presented with checkpoints at the beginning of the rally. The challenge is to locate and navigate your own route, using only paper maps, to each checkpoint, and the objective is to be the team who has traveled the least amount of miles. Teams are given roughly 24 hours to accomplish these objectives.
The winners will have their names engraved on the Chicagoland Cup traveling trophy. The Chicagoland MG Club donated this trophy to the event in 1997 and the names of all the winners are engraved on it. There have been four winning teams from the Chicagoland Club in the 16 previous runnings of this event.
A drivers meeting and odometer calibration run will precede the start of the rally from the parking lot of the Hilton Grand Rapids, the host hotel for the University Motors Summer Party. The rally will conclude at the Hilton on Friday morning as the Summer Party comes to life. Rally Fee is $25.00.
