MG 2015
The 24th Annual Convention of the North American MGB Register
June 8-12, 2015
Waterfalls, Tigers, and MG’s, oh my!
MG 2015 is behind us and it was great! Six of us met at the Lincoln Oasis on I-294 on Sunday morning with the Nuffield Award in tow. After a light breakfast we headed east. We made it to London, Ontario the first day. It was a pleasant drive, just overcast and comfortable temperatures. We spotted a number of MGs from downstate Illinois and Rockford. We had a very good dinner at Tony Roma’s in London and called it a day. The next day we woke up to light rain, loaded the cars, and headed out for the Niagara Falls. Monday’s weather more than made up for Sunday. It poured, buckets. Of course, being stalwart MG drivers, we continued through the rain. It was still raining as we pulled up to the Americana Resort. But, by the time we had checked in the rain had stopped for the day. We had dinner at Antica Pizzeria before spending an enjoyable evening hanging out with MG friends from all over the US and Canada.
Tuesday morning we had breakfast at the hotel before boarding our enclosed London double decker bus for a tour of the Niagara Falls area. While we were gone, John Twist conducted his now familiar rolling tech session. It was, as usual, well attended. Our tour started with a narrative of the area before arriving for a stop at the falls. The rain had reduced to sprinkles by the time we got off the bus. We continued east along the Niagara River with our guide pointing out historical and geological features of the area. We were following the Niagara Parkway to just east of the whirlpool rapids. We then headed back towards the town stopping at the floral clock, celebrating its 100th year. Back at the hotel, we decided to take the WEGO public bus system back into town. We went to the Fallsview Casino and Resort. We wandered around the shops and went out on a terrace where we could see the falls. The sun was out and it had turned into a beautiful day. We even got to see the rainbow that is almost always visible in the mist. We walked to Margaritaville for dinner which was fun and delicious. We had another look at the falls on our way back to the hotel.
Wednesday was car show day. We lined up in small groups to caravan to the show field at Balls Falls Conservation Area. It was a nice venue. The sun was shining when we arrive but we couldn’t make it through the whole day without some precipitation. It rained pretty hard for about 45 minutes, but then the sun came out and it was a beautiful afternoon. There were a lot of beautiful MGs on
