  Monthly Meeting Minutes
June 18, 2018

Victor Lheureux

36 Members in attendance

CMGC President Dean Hickenlooper opened the meeting at 8:01 pm. Dean welcomed guest David Fernire, owner of a 1974 MGB GT needing some repair. Dean noted that we as a club can assist in what is needed to get on the road.

  Car Projects
Tim Schafer still working on an elusive starting issue.
Kevin Carlson recently retrofitted his 1969 MGB with overdrive at MG Limited and updated his carburetion from Weber to SUs. Big performance difference.
Seth Jones is assisting Jim Smith with issues with a manifold on his 1974 Midget. In addition, he has replaced valve cover gaskets, headlight harness and currently working on a heater valve.
Jim Compton went to Blackhawk Farms Raceway to watch CMGC members race. Jim’s car would not run successfully and had to be towed back to Illinois. The culprit was a 28 mF condenser failure in the ignition system.
Dino Perez is currently working on the RV8 right-front wheel bearings. Still looking for a buyer for his unique MGB limo.

books The Library Muse

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by another name would smell as sweet.” That’s Shakespeare. Or as Andy Griffith might say, “No matter what you call a rose you can’t do nothing about the way it stinks.” Although I named my boat ‘Paid IV,’ in our house we do not have names for our cars. Thanks to Mr. Bill, Deb’s Alpine is sometimes called ‘the Plymouth,’ but the Mini is referred to as the ‘Mini’ and the MGB is called the ‘B,’ except on those extremely rare occasions where there are mechanical issues (and we all know how infrequent those are with MGs) at which times I call it ‘lousy piece of British cr**’ or other such names containing numerous four letter words not suitable for this publication.

So, what’s in a name? If your MG has a name that catches the fancy of our distinguished panel of judges, you may be the winner of an MG related prize. Email me your car’s name at least one day prior to the July 2018 meeting to be eligible. My email address can be found elsewhere in this issue, that’s part of the contest. As usual, bribing the judges with adult beverages is permissible, in fact encouraged. But may not be successful.
