Chicagoland MG Club: Driveline July 2019

books Library Muse

Today let’s talk housekeeping. Not your favorite way to wash and wax your MG or vacuuming the floor carpeting, but how to get a book from the Club’s library. A month or two ago Victor E-mailed out to each member a current and complete inventory of books and videos. If there is something on the list that you would be interested in, Just E-mail (DO NOT TEXT) me and I will bring it to the meeting. Or I can send it to you via USPS. At your expense, the Club doesn’t have the funds and I’m too cheap.

Secondly, the following items are lost, misplaced or otherwise MIA and not included in the inventory. If you have any of these or know what happened to them, please let me know.

Lastly, if you are a regular reader of Autoweek, you may have read the article written by Joe Saward titled “A Life Lived Bravely” in the June 17 issue. A brief story of W Williams who came from a mysterious background and was the winner of the first Monaco Grand Prix in1929. During WWII he joined the British S.O.E. (Special Operations Executive) and trained as a secret saboteur. If you found the article interesting you may be pleased to know that our library has a book, The Grand Prix Saboteurs, by the same author. It greatly expands on the W Williams story and that of others.

Road America Vintage Racing for MGs
Elkhart Lake, WI
July 18-21, 2019

Although this is not a club-sponsored event, I believe it is worth mentioning as a happening you shouldn't miss. How often can you witness vintage MGs and other open-cockpit racers on a course winding through woods, under bridges and barreling down a straightaway? Road America has it all!

A mid-summer favorite, The WeatherTech® International Challenge with Brian Redman presented by HAWK is one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States and features over 400 cars competing in several groups.

The four-day weekend will also showcase a historic CAN-AM race, which is the highlight of this year’s event as an impressive field of cars is expected to gather in celebration of CAN-AM’s 53rd Anniversary. Additionally, 2019 will be a special MG Focus Event during the weekend.

Additional information can be found on the Road America website—www.roadamerica.com

Editor’s Note: In past years, the CMGC would make this a camping weekend. So much to see. Not only the races, but the concourse of race cars in downtown Elkhart Lake, the parade along the old race route through town and much more. Check out the Website.
