This past weekend (of course during the Secrets Tour) I move into a new townhouse in St. Charles. I have to say after 22 years in the same house I was amazed at the amount of “stuff” that we had accumulated. Needless to say we are still going through it all (probably a winter-long project). Jan has given me some latitude for a little bit of the decorating. We have gone for the “loft” look in the living room. I happened to be in a hobby store and found several posters of the Monaco Grand Prix. So I got the posters representing 1930, 1937 and 1948. They are very bold in color and have MG type racers on them. I really couldn’t believe that she would let them be in the living room; but they look great!
Being in a new place I am just getting a chance to explore the local area. I commandeered the MG from my son and have been exploring some of the roads. I feel like a kid in a candy store. I have found quite a few “unpainted” roads that twist and turn and are a whole bunch of fun to be driving. Needless to say, I had to give the MG back to Johnny so he can use it for work. I guess what I am trying to say is to take your MG for a stroll. Explore your local roads; find that roads that work with nature and the surroundings. It will leave you (and your MG) refreshed and ready for more.
Happy Motoring,

Well it was my first time hosting a rally and it ended well. My intension was to make it a simple run for those beginners that have never participated in a rally.
We started in Wasco, IL near St. Charles and drove out just west of route 47. The roads were nice and the weather was a little overcast but overall a good day. We continued into Crystal Lake onto a great road called ‘Lucas Road’ then routed back through a few towns ending up in East Dundee at Rosie O’Hare’s for a quick meal. We were fortunate that there were no breakdowns and the event went smooth.
Later in the month we took my RV8 or limo to a couple of cruise nights. A great way to take part in the summer festivities in neighboring towns with our cars.
Out of the blue, Tom Raddatz called and said, “Let’s go to Road America” … and off we drove for the day to Wisconsin in the RV8. Guess what car Tom drove? He was like a little kid with candy - it was a fun drive.
It has been a few years since I have been to the Road America track and it was fun being there. We met a few fellow members at the track – it was a great old time.
We have some great driving events come up. Check out Rainout’s column in this Driveline newsletter.
Library Muse
The club library is listed on the website: http://www.chicagolandmgclub.com/library/
Since I will not be carting the entire library to each meeting, please e-mail the CMGC Librarian or phone and leave a message if you would like to reserve a book or video or are interested in more information. Books and videos may be picked up and returned at any monthly membership meeting.
