Post cards from Karel

An ‘Auto’biography of History

Notes from Reinout

This month, Karel’s postcard comes from Campbeltown in Scotland and features a MG1300. There are several other interesting British automobiles in the picture, but it’s the MG that brings back good memories. At the time, BMC was all in to badge engineering. One base model (ADO 16 in this case) was offered with different badges and some minor changes in engine performance and interior as an Austin, Morris, MG, Riley and Wolseley. I believe that only the Austin version was formerly imported in the USA as an Austin America. The MG version came with 1100 and 1300 cc engines. We had two MGs and a few Austin and Morrises for parts to keep the MGs running. We sold everything, cars and truck-loads of parts, to a MG friend when we moved to Chicago in 1988. But when I was going though our attic to pack-up to come to Atlanta, I found a 1300 grill that we had all forgotten about. It now sits on a shelf in our new garage.
