Monthly Meeting Minutes

Attendance: 41 members

Dino Perez opened the meeting at 8:00 pm and welcomed new members David Zebarah, Andy Anderson and recognized guests Pierre Blaje and Ken Jacobson. David owns a 1978 brown MGB, Pierre has an 1973 MGB, Ken owns a 1977 MGB (but drove a Harley Davidson to the meeting) and Andy is looking for a MG TD to purchase.

Past Events:
GOF – 7/24-26 – Dino noted that the event went quite well even though there was a threat of rain for the weekend. Diana Gonzales thanked all of the many CMGC volunteers that assisted in making this event successful. Land’s End Rally – 8/5 – Russ Mehaffey noted that this successful rally had 19 cars and 1 Harley Davidson entered. Don & Lois Haag dropped out due to fuel problems and Chuck & Antoinette Strezo joined us at the end for lunch (after a round of golf). Steve and Liz LaFond won 1st place. Lap Around the Lake - 8/16 – Eleven cars participated in event. Kim Tonry & Steve Skegg won 1st place in the event covering 969.9 miles around Lake Michigan. University Motors Summer Party – 8/16-19 – Dino noted this event is actually three events – a rally around Lake Michigan starting on 8/16, a gathering on Friday 8/17, followed with a picnic and car show on Saturday 8/18. There were 203 cars in the field for the car show.

Miata Club Autocross – 8/25 – We will be joining again with the Windy City Miata Club for this event. More info on website windycitymiataclub.com.

Garage Tour #2 – The tour will start in Western Springs and finish in Naperville. Four CMGC member garages will be visited. More details to follow.

British Car Festival – 9/9 – The event this year will be held in Palatine at Harper Community College. Dino will be on-site early to mark out the area for the MG car group. We will be assisting in car marshaling again with this event. A sign-up sheet was passed around. Darryl Mayo will be coordinating the efforts.

Meadowdale Raceway – 9/15 – this is an unscheduled CMGC event that will be used to highlight the 50th year of the MGB. We have secured 20 spots on the car show grounds for MGB’s. This year’s event will honor Carrol Shelby and the 50th anniversary of the Cobra. The feature will be the 1968 SCCA Trans-Am that was held at Meadowdale. See the cars and meet the drivers, crew, and workers. Share the stories, history & memorabilia of Meadowdale Raceway. We will end the afternoon with a drive to a local eatery in West Dundee for lunch.

Wine, Cheese, Beer and Shakespeare Tour – 9/21-23 – This years’ tour will have a record number of cars – over 30 cars! Although lodging is booked up at the local hotels, Dino noted that he is driving up on Sunday morning (early!) to drive the final day tour.

CMGC Holiday Party – 12/8 – It may be early to think of holiday parties, but not too early to arrange the event. This year we will again hold the event at the Bella Vista Restaurant. We have upgraded the menu and will be utilizing the larger room. We do not anticipate and change in the cost for members.

50-50 Raffle – Malissa Perez went home $9 richer after having the winning ticket.
