Tally Ho Rally
Sunday, August 11, 2013
There were 22 cars entered in this year's Tally Ho Rally, held on August 11. This is a record entry number for this rally and even better, 19 of the cars were MGs. The starting point for the rally was the Lucky Monk Restaurant located just east of Barrington Road and north of I-90.
The Lucky Monk restaurant was also the endpoint for the rally. The very MG friendly roads of Barrington Hills provided the venue for the rally. After the registration and drivers meeting the first car was sent off at 12 noon and the cars thereafter left in one minute intervals.
The target speed for the rally was 26 MPH and the target time for returning to the restaurant was one hour and 50 minutes. In first place were Rick and Nancy Maitzen, driving a MG TD, with a total penalty score of five points.
Second place was Phil and Sandy Wydra, in a 1973 MGB, with a penalty score of 11 points. Finally third place went to Gary Cihac and his daughter Chloe, in a MG TF, with a total penalty score of 12 points. The rally was fourteen year old Chloe’s first time in a rally and as a navigator!
I also wish to thank my rally helpers, Oscar and Diana Gonzales, Joan Kaye, and my daughter Jean Minerly. In total we had 49 people at the event.
